SHI has proven success in sustainable farming, having partnered with farming families in Central America for over 25 years in a variety of climates, geographies, and cultures.

Now is the time for us to scale up the impact of our programs to increase food security and restore the environment.

If the world’s 500 million smallholder farmers adopted regenerative agriculture…

They could draw down 6 billion tons of carbon from the atmosphere every year.

That’s nearly 20 percent of global annual emissions or the equivalent of shutting down every coal-fired power plant in the world.

  • Expansion of Core Program: Increase SHI’s capacity for providing direct technical assistance to farming families from 500 to 1,000 or more.

  • Replication through Partners: Replicate the core, essential elements of our program model with partnerships that can access almost a billion dollars in funding through government, collaborations, and networks. Possible partners include government agencies, nonprofits, universities, and businesses.

  • Innovation: Test and adopt innovations in our methodology to significantly lower or offset the cost of program delivery. Examples include farmer mentorship programs and earned income ventures.

The Million Farm Transformation was created collaboratively by SHI staff and board members, and guided by experts in the field. Learn more about the members of SHI’s Advisory Council who lend their guidance to this initiative.
